Ebook About I was born a princess among criminals. An untouchable among thieves. Heiress to a life others have killed for, and one I'd do anything to escape. I vowed not to leave without Diego, my first love and best friend, but if his ruthless brother has his way, I won’t leave at all.Cristiano de la Rosa is a man as big and bold as his legend. Once upon a time, he was our cartel’s best soldier . . . until he became my family’s worst enemy. And a man like Cristiano will bend fate to his will to get what he wants—even if it means tearing me from another's arms.Because in the de la Rosa family, old grudges run deeper than loyalty, and betrayal is a three-letter word: war. But this feud isn’t between enemies—it’s between brothers. And I’m the prize.Book Violent Delights (White Monarch Book 1) Review :
I HAVE LOST MY MIND OVER THIS BOOK.LOST.MY.FREAKING.MIND.I mean... Whoa! Holy flipping whoa. This is the book of the year for me. THE #1! It barreled over all of my favorites. I'm declaring it the winner. It was OUT OF THIS WORLD. I can't believe how good it was. I can't wrap my head around it. I mean, WHERE DID THIS STORY LINE COME FROM? It rocked me to my core. Undeniably addictive. Every word forces you to pay attention. The characters are commanding and demanding, bold and cunning, smart and layered, and just woweeeeeeee! I fell in love with our anti-hero Cristiano, and his brother Diego... NO WORDS.JUST NONE.I can't even explain. And this storyline... It's twisty. Lordy, is it twisty. I can't say much. I feel like that would be too spoilery! And I don't want to color your minds with my opinions. This is a book you need to throw yourself into. This story will devour you. It'll make you feel SO MUCH. It's unique and refreshing and angsty and intense and smart and twisted and so many other things. I can tell the author took the time to really write a detailed, smart, complex, and thoroughly thought-out tale. One with an intricate plot, a cast of characters who have boldly defined personalities, and writing that just LIVES and BREATHES. I am such a fan of this book. You need to read it. I swear, it's so good. Mafia romance done right. Let me preface this review by saying that very few love triangle stories work for me - I often find them more frustrating than entertaining, which is not what I'm looking for in a book. That said, I have enjoyed some, and the ones that are successful to me are those where the two competing characters who are vying for the love interest are either inherently likeable or are otherwise worthy in some way... That way, the reader comes to like both of them, and can sympathize not only with them, but with the main character as she navigates through her choices and decisions. Sadly, that was not the case with this story.**SPOILERS BELOW:Although this whole first book is pretty much Natalia and Diego together, it's apparent as soon as Christiano re-enters the picture that the two brothers will be vying for her. And to say that I STRONGLY DISLIKED Diego would be an understatement. He is nothing but a weak, selfish person, and it was frustrating to see just how much Natalia bought into his manipulation, fake affection, and all around self-serving behavior. Basically as soon as Christiano returns, it's clear that he's the better, stronger, more loyal man in every way, and it's obvious that he wasn't responsible for Natalia's mothers death. Because of this, it was beyond annoying that Natalia continued her blind loyalty to Diego, believed the worst of Christiano, and then gave her virginity to Diego the night before they were supposedly getting married, after waiting for years?!? (WTF. I actually skipped that whole scene, because I already disliked Diego so much, and was so annoyed that Natalia was with someone who was clearly just using her to one-up Christiano - I mean, yes, clearly Diego's attracted to her, but he's also way too weak and selfish to truly love her... Anyway, the whole thing made me hate Diego even more, which I didn't think was possible. Seriously, what a d*ck). I also have a suspicion that it was Diego that was involved in Natalia's mother's death, since he's the one that's still so upset about his own parents death. My guess is Natalia mentioned the secret tunnel to him by accident when she was little, and he hired the hitman.Another sticking point for me (and I saw that this was mentioned in another review, too), is it drives me CRAZY when one direct question and short conversation between characters would clear up an entire book's worth of misunderstandings. (For example: If Natalia had just directly asked Christiano: "What exactly happened the day my mother died?", Christiano could have explained to her in a matter of minutes exactly what happened, how much Natalia's mother had meant to him, and how her dying wish was for him to protect her, not warn her away). But no, instead there were just several half-finished, overly vague conversations between the two about that day.... So again, frustrating.Anyway, those were my problems with the book. The good news is, there was a lot that I really liked about it, too! I loved the world-building, and was totally immersed in the backstory between the families, and the cartel way of life. It was a really interesting and exciting read throughout, not to mention, Jessica Hawkins is a very talented writer. I do think I'll read the second book, since I want to see how Natalia & Christiano's story plays out, but I can already tell that if Diego makes a reappearance, and becomes a legitimate part of the love triangle again, I'm going to be VERY ANNOYED.
